Okay, so I’m not a Lawyer, but when it comes to Employment Law issues; I can probably pass for one.

One common perception from an employee on their way out of a business, in Ontario, is that getting terminated will be a big pay day…because of course no one wants a lawsuit and judges generally side with the employee....however;

In Ontario, we have the Employment Standard Act and this ‘act’ guides the termination payment requirements when a valid contract is in place. So, if you signed a contract and you’ve been working for a company for less than 5 years who decided to terminate you…your package will likely range from 4-weeks’ pay to 8-weeks’ pay, depending on the size of the company.

If you don’t like it…you can always shell out money to sue your employer…now how's that for protection!
